Dental Tips to Keep Teeth Healthy During the Holiday Season
It is hard to believe that November has already arrived and the holiday season is right around the corner. Before we know it, we will be ringing in the start of 2022! We know that many of our patients are busy during the holidays spending time with family and friends, attending holiday parties, and even traveling to visit relatives. We want to help you maintain your oral health during the upcoming holiday season. Here are some tips to help your oral health.
4 Dental Health Tips
Maintain a Healthy Hygiene Routine
The best way to keep your teeth healthy during the holiday season is to maintain proper oral hygiene. Be sure to brush teeth for two minutes twice a day. We also recommend flossing once a day to help remove any lingering food and bacteria that has become trapped between teeth. It can be tempting to relax your routine during busy times, but that can lead to decay and the need for unwanted dental treatments.
Schedule Appointment for Needed Treatment
If we have recently recommended a dental treatment to restore the proper function of your oral health, we suggest scheduling your appointment as soon as possible. Delaying dental treatments can lead to dental emergencies and the need for additional treatments in the future. We would hate for you to need an emergency appointment over the holidays.
Limit Sugary Treats
There are many delicious desserts, treats, and cocktails available during the holiday season. These are good to enjoy in moderation. However, it can be tempting to overindulge in all of the goodies. Doing so will only lead to complications with your oral health. Frequently indulging in sugar will lead to decay and possibly the need for dental treatments when the new year rolls around. While at holiday events, be sure to choose some “tooth-friendly” foods as well.
Drink Plenty of Water
Although we would love for our patients to brush their teeth after every meal or treat, we know that this is not realistic. When brushing isn’t an option, drinking water can help flush bacteria, sugar, and remaining food that may be settling or trapped between the teeth.
The best way to ensure that your teeth are healthy is to visit our office every six months for a hygiene examination and cleaning. It is not too late to schedule an appointment before the end of the year to take advantage of your remaining insurance benefits. If you are located in The Woodlands, TX and have any further questions about your oral health or need to schedule an appointment, please call our office. We would love to help your teeth remain healthy during the upcoming holiday season.
