What You Need To Know About Crowns
We encourage patients who need dental treatments to schedule their appointments as soon as possible. The longer you delay treatment, the greater your risk of experiencing a dental emergency or needing a more in-depth treatment. We know it can be a little intimidating if you are unfamiliar with the treatment you need. We want to take a few moments to explain more about one of the most common treatments we provide on a daily basis: dental crowns. Read on to learn more.
What is a Dental Crown?
One of the most common treatments we perform daily is a dental crown. A dental crown is a tooth-colored cap that we place over a damaged, decayed, or cracked tooth to protect it from further damage. Once the treatment is complete, patients love that their crowns blend in with their natural teeth.
Why Would I Need a Dental Crown?
Dental crowns are important to restore the structure of the teeth. We may recommend a dental crown if you have recurring decay and another filling will not be beneficial. It can be used to fix a cracked or chipped tooth. Dental crowns are also a popular choice to complete certain dental treatments, such as dental implants and a root canal.
Important Information about Dental Crowns
It is important to note that the procedure for a dental crown requires more than one visit to the office. During the first visit, we will remove any decay or cracks in the tooth. We will then take an impression of your tooth and place a temporary crown. During your next appointment, we will place the permanent crown. While you are wearing the temporary crown, it is important to avoid chewy or tough foods and be careful when brushing the area. If the temporary crown should fall out, be sure to contact us as soon as possible.
We would hate for you to experience complications with your oral health from postponing a recommended dental treatment, such as a dental crown. If you are in need of a dental crown or other dental treatment, be sure to contact our office, which is located in The Woodlands, TX, to schedule an appointment. We look forward to seeing you soon!
